Why spaced retrieval practice?

Spaced retrieval practice (SRP) is the technique of actively recalling information across multiple, distributed sessions. This study method has been shown to produce stronger and more durable learning than massed practice (more commonly known as "cramming"). This study investigates how SRP applies to IUPAC and common chemical nomenclature, a foundational skill for chemistry students.

The study is conducted by the Bongers Lab in the Department of Chemistry at Queen's University, under the supervision of Dr. Amanda Bongers and funded by an NSERC Discovery Grant.
